Satara, Kruger Park

Heading north now and onto Satara for our next 3 nights.  Lots of birds and mammals in and around the camp.

'Africa'

African Fish Eagles

Thousands of bats emerged from the restaurant roof at Satara.

Bearded Woodpecker

What the heck !  Miles away from the camp in an area where you can't even put your arm out your vehicle and someone has ridden a bike.   What about the hungry lions?!
We saw our first red-backed shrike at this spot, just the one. Within two weeks there were thousands of them. One on every bit of scrub.

Black-shouldered Kite

Blacksmiths Plover

Blue Wilderbeast

Brown-headed Parrot

Brown-hooded Kingfisher

Bulbul

Cape Sparrow

Chacma Baboons

Chinspot Batis

Cinnamon-breasted Rock Bunting

Crested Barbet - common in all the camp grounds

Tawny Eagle having a drink of puddle after a shower

Wahlberg's Eagle

European Bee-eater

We had a short shower and the fields erupted with these pink flowers. They didn't look real when their surroundings were parched dry. But they obviously tasted good !

Glossy Starlings

Go-away Bird

Greenshank

Lots of young hyenas around Kruger

Lunch-time for a couple of cubs

Very nervous Impala risking a drink in crocodile infested water.
