Bempton Cliffs

Another trip to Bempton which, to be honest, was quite disappointing. The people, oh my goodness, a mid week trip with kids at school and we thought it would be fairly quiet. Wrong ! We were just in the overspill of the overspill and the crowds walking along the cliff tops and on the viewing areas was off the scale. Some viewpoints we could not even get on. It was a nightmare. There were alot more birds on the cliffs than our last visit which was good. But seeing the sea upskittles me a bit and I always get the urge to go on a cruise !! Just a few pics for you to see. 

Fulmar

Lots of gannet action on the cliff tops, but also lots of photographers !

Razorbills

We saw just one puffin on the cliffs, slightly obscured by grasses. There were quite a few here, coming and going, but afraid non landing in view.

Gannets, Bempton Cliffs

 

Recon we were a bit too eager to go to Bempton as most of the birds hadn't yet settled on the cliffs, they were all still flying out to sea and stocking up on food. Will give it another month and go back. The roadworks from the Humber Bridge to Beverley didn't help and a fair whack of tractors to hold us up, not a particularly good day !  But good to see gannets collecting their nesting material from the cliff top grassy banks.

Lots of puffins on the cliffs, the star bird !  Always good to see and certainly brings a smile x

Kittiwakes with kitti chicks !

Gannets, the wardens told us the numbers were up with is definately good news. The ones with the blue heads have a transmitter fitted to them and data is collected from these few birds re where they feed, times etc.  Once you had your eye in there were quite a few sat on the cliffs.
