Black-necked Grebe, Blue Lagoon, Scunthorpe

The Blue Lagoon is a designated local nature reserve yet North Lincolnshire Council allows swimming and when I worked in the Environment Team, permission was being sought to allow model boats.  Seems that was granted. It beggars belief that this disturbance is allowed on a nature reserve but then you only have to look at Ashby Ville where jet skis zoom round, fishing and even camping for the whole summer seems to be allowed and this is another local nature reserve.

Greenshank, Blacktoft Sands RSPB

An excellent couple of hours yesterday evening in good company. Bird highlights were greenshank, snipe, yellow wagtail and a hobby.

A few from this week

Common Terns at Messingham Nature Reserve. Such a pity that the Lincs Trust cannot put more tern islands in, infact all the perches in the lakes have now gone leaving the terns, cormorants and gulls with nowhere left to perch. Clearly a wildlife trust not interested in birds at all.

Purple Hairstreak Butterflies

An early morning stroll before the relentless heat of the day, gave us lots of purple hairstreaks on one of our local walks.
