Ring Ouzels and Redstart

Ring ouzel and yellow wagtail

Ring ouzel and fieldfare

A fantastic afternoon out with 4 ring ouzels and a redstart found by Simon. Glad we went out !

What a cracking bird.....a male redstart takes some beating !

and a bunny !

Black-browed Albatross, Bempton Cliffs

We timed our annual trip to Bempton Cliffs perfectly this year, although the weather could have been a few degrees warmer. It was flipping baltic !  When we got there the albatross was sat on the sea, but it soon flew into the cliffs and we had brilliant views of it as it flew and glided with the gannets. Sometimes sitting on the cliffs below and out of sight but it lifted off the cliffs many times and we had excellent views. A fantastic day out !

Gannets with a passing Albatross !

Love the colours, the light and textures of this pic

No trip to Bempton is complete without watching the puffins

A skua clearing up the dead from the sea. We thought this was a puffin. Poor thing.

Mandarin Ducks

This is a place that we often visit, ocassionally seeing mandarin. The locals all talk of seeing them on the fence yet we have never been lucky.....until last Friday. Not many folk about and onto the fence they came, 5 males and 1 female. They stayed on and around the fence all afternoon. It made our day !

A few from last week

Little Pixi cat sunning herself ontop of the composter

Nuthatch with nut

A rarity for us these days. This hedgehog was trundling around the car park at Messingham. We left it some nuts. Used to be a common sight as kids.......now hardly ever seen, very sad.

Some lovely colours and patters in this fungus

Quite a few Snakes Head Fritilaries in the garden this year

Now this is something you need to cast your eyes on !  A large haddock and chips from Johnson's of Gainsborough. Thick, flaky haddock, crispy batter, chips and scraps.....absolutely delicious !

A tree full of corn buntings

I soon got this work stopped. North Lincolnshire Council's idea of managing a wood is to totally strip every bit of understory from it to tidy it up.  The wood has only been there 20 years and already it is deemed untidy. They didn't get much more cleared before they got an e-mail from Karen and the clearing was stopped. A lovely woodland corner now totally ruined. We will be keeping our eye on this bit of woodland that we were both heavily involved with in our working lives. Simon did the species list and planted all 9 acres of it. I did the successful grant application form and ordered the trees. So hands off it !
