Our Cyprus holiday

Beautiful blue sky, just what we needed !

Cape Drepanum, a place we visited most days as our hotel was not too far away.  Here is Simon showing a local photographer a few birds.

The sea walk from our hotel. Plenty of whearears, a pair of rock thrush, black redstarts and many warblers over the week.

Mandria, another hotspot for wheatears and larks

Cape Drepanum

The reservoir where we saw the Naked Man orchids

Pathos Headland. Now surrounded by a fence and not open until 9am, closed at 4pm. We only went here once, it cost us 2euros to get in - pensioners price !  We was last here 15 years ago and cannot remember it being this big.  Half way round we saw a few birders looking at us so we looked back......it was Glyn and Richard Taylor ! Good mates from Yorkshire. What a small world it is. They were looking through the fence from the coastal path........2 euros too expensive ! 😁

Akrotiri reedbeds with the Limassol sprawl in the background

Cape Drepanum, Agios Georgios

The view from our balcony......we didn't see anyone in the pool all week and the sun worshipers didn't stay out long

Some stunning sun sets xx

The coastal path from our hotel

Just back from a week in Cyprus. Apart from the weather, it ticked every box. The weather was bitterly cold at the start of the week which wasn't that good for bird migration. Flycatchers and shrikes hadn't yet arrived (and still haven't). The Troodos mountains were still covered in deep snow, and it was still snowing so we didn't venture up there. We flew from Doncaster, which was a brezee being a half hour drive away. We went self catering as didn't want to be near too many people, but after the Tui maskless flight (we kept ours on), it defeated the object. Fuel was slightly cheaper than here, but the price went up while we were there. Food was about the same price. So, a very good holiday that made us want to resume world travel. We saw loads of good orchids, 100 species of birds and had a thoroughly good time. Just what we needed !
