Goodbye Magic

Last week we had to say goodbye to Magic cat. He had 6 very happy years in the world, so sad that it wasn't more. A lovely cat that we will miss dearly, he has left his pawprints in our hearts xx

A few from the garden

We have made a start on this winter's wood pile. Our son, Tom, is a joiner so off cuts and wood that is destined for the skip, often arrive home......by the van full. These two piles in the wood shed are just a smittering of what needs cutting. Wished we had a stove and not an open fire as it would certainly last a lot longer, and give us more heat that's for sure. Been looking to move house for over a year, can't find the garden we want, but a wood burning stove is a necessity. We will keep looking !

The last of this years potatoes, lifted before the wet weather arrives this week. These red ones are Sarpo Mira and make the best Actifry chips in the world !

Simon always takes a bunch of flowers from our garden to Lucy's when we visit. The dahlias have been stunning this year and they are still going strong. We will grow more next year, different varieties, love them x

The last of the runner and french beans, frozen within 30 mins of picking and the plants already in the composter. Nothing goes to waste at our house.

Pixi and Magic. They love to be with us in the garden so a couple of fishing mats makes the perfect bed for the day. Like two bookends !

A few from our garden last week

An excellent potato harvest this morning with plenty more still in the ground. Now all washed, dried and put in trays. They are delicious, so tasty compared to shop bought.  No comparison.

Our tomatoes haven't been the success as in previous years. We usually have literally stones but afraid not this year due to the bitterly cold spring and now we have a lack of sun for ripening. Oh well, we will harvest what we can and enjoy !

We have never grown dahlias before so put a few tubers in the bottom of the garden. They are stunning, the garden looks a riot of colour and I have cut flowers every day in the house. Will grow more next year. Love them.
Dahlias and sweet peas from the garden with a few orchids that we have in the kitchen window.

I told Simon that something was eating the fushias..............
We had a elephant hawk moth in the house the other night and now we have a caterpillar in the garden. It's certainly put paid to a few choice plants !

Pixi likes to be with us in the garden and she loves a sieve to sit it !

Like two peas in a pod. This is Magic asleep in the kitchen window. He had been looking out of it all morning, keeping his eye on the drive. It proved too much and an afternoons sleep was called for. He really couldn't have been comfortable, teetering on the sill.  And as soon as he moved, Pixi moved in, and had an evenings sleep on the eggs !  They are funny xx

Pixi and Magic

Our two cats. Pixi out for the count on my fleece and Magic keeping his eye on his garden.....just incase! They don't normally sleep in the same chair, infact that morning they were hissing and spitting at one another as they passed in the kitchen !

Quite a few wheatears at Toft Reservoir this morning

Just chatting about the massive numbers of terns passing through today and bingo, in flew a flock of 20 Arctic with this one black tern. Very active and never close.
Called at Messingham NR on the way home from Toft and a further 20 Arctic flew through.
A good day all round.
