Eastern Yellow Wagtail, Sedgeford, Norfolk

A Christmas Eve day out to Norfolk to see the Eastern Yellow Wag which showed the whole time we were there. An easy drive, decent weather, fabulous showy bird, home to start the Christmas food and drink ! A new UK bird for us taking Karen's UK tally to 418.

Hen Harrier

A lovely, although bitterly cold, walk over the holidays. Good to feel the fresh air and burn off a few Christmas calories (which there were millions!). The star bird was a hen harrier, always distant, with a merlin and kestrel for company. Masses of pink feet over and a short eared owl as we made our way back to the car to get warm !

Bittern, Far Ings NNR, Lincs

A Rudd for lunch is served !

We thought there was another bittern in the reedbed as is bird appeared to display to it

Fishing

Lots of displaying going on

Cormorant

Grey Heron strutting up the bank

An excellent couple of hours in the packed hide at Far Ings. Pleased we got an upstairs seat as most folk in the hide failed to see this bittern at the bottom of the channel. It fished for ages before striking lucky with a rudd which it downed in one. It continued to fish without any more luck before displaying to what we thought was another bittern hidden in the reedbed. It eventually crossed the channel and disappeared into the reedbed. Fabulous !
