Short Eared Owls and a Red Kite

 

We were on one of our favourite afternoon walks when we saw a raptor approaching. We usually see marsh harrier on this walk so this red kite was a very welcome surprise. We have never see one here before so a double bonus. 

And then Simon says 'whats that quartering that field'? Only a flipping short eared owl....and then another arrived and another and one sat on a post. What a good late afternoon walk.....red kite and 4 short eared owls !  Brilliant !

Red-throated Diver and a few other bits from last week

 

Red-throated Diver last week on the Sailing Pit at Barton obviously at the other side of the pit where access is now fenced off

Walked into the parkland and there were 7 red kites sat in this tree......we knew we were in for a good afternoon !

A distant peregrine that displayed the whole time we were there, the more his female called the more he displayed......a fantastic sight to see

Just got out the car and this fox trotted down the road. No time to think about camera settings, just point and hope !  We saw him a few times, a magnificent animal x

Red Kites, Lincs

 

A bit of blue sky for a change so we headed out to watch the red kite roost. We were not disappointed with over 30 birds coming into roost. Pity the blue sky didn't last !  Other birds of note were a pair of peregrines displaying, ravens, calling tawny owl, kestrels and buzzards. A brilliant couple of hours. Will defo return before they disperse.
