Some fascinating creatures to be found in the rock pools at low tide. Simon walked out there every day with a camera. I managed it once - it was very slippery! Although it was a 'nationally protected marine park' the locals fished it and were to be seen selling the fish each day. We even saw a turtle being caught and killed, then sold to someone. When we were out really early, the locals were seen carrying huge chunks of coral away. So the Kenyan Wildlife Service that are supposed to manage this water, were not doing too good a job on their policing. The beach was devoid of shells, yet covered in plastic bottles.

Have just returned from two glorious weeks at Turtle Bay. The holiday was booked through Late Deals where we got quite a good bargain ! The holiday was probably the best we have ever done, it was perfect. From the birds, the trip to Tsarvo, the hotel, food, Albert our bird guide, weather......all excellent. The hotel was fabulous, spotless clean, lovely food with plenty of choice, good sized pool and private beach front. We couldn't ask for any more and it was the perfect base for our birding trip. After a 4 hour birding trip every morning we came back to the pool for a swim, then lunch, and if the tide was right Simon would go out onto the coral reef snorkelling for a couple of hours before Albert picked us back up at 4pm for another couple of hours birding - perfect!

The view from our room. We asked for a downstairs room with a garden view thinking we could feed the birds but there were very few birds in the hotel grounds which was probably the only disappointment.
