Wengen, Switzerland

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and I have lots of pics for you ! Will tell you where they are just incase you are tempted to do this trip. You won't regret it !

We walked along the river at Lauterbrunnen one morning but the amount of tourists forced us to beat a retreat. Very scenic but scorching hot and packed. It was back up into the mountains for us !

Wing-suit jumpers launched themselves off the mountain on the right and landed with their parachutes in these meadows. Never seen these before, looked terrifying to be honest !

The river was full of glacier melt and was flowing along in a massive torrent.

Loved these benches which were all along the river. At home they would either be vandalised or stolen.

A cracking view of the church at Lauterbrunnen

Cloud formation after a storm over the Jungfrau

This was a walk we did three times in the week we were there, that tells you how good it was. We took the cog railway up to Wengernalp. From the train window we saw thousands of orchids and the view was spectacular. We walked both ways from the station, up and down. This was from the uphill walk towards Mettlenalp. On the left was a fridge that was full of cheese, sausages and fudge for sale, all made at the local farm. They had run an electrical extension cable down to the fridge! Could you see that ever happening in the UK ?! Through the ski gates, the cows had just been milked and were gathering to walk back into the meadows. Every one had a bell and the noise was deafening. They didn't bat an eyelid as we walked straight through them. I will put on a video of the cow bells, it brings back so many good memories of this trip.
The meadows down here was absolutely covered in alpine flowers, thousands and thousands of orchids. It was the most we have ever seen. A local farmer was working in the meadows with a hand held scythe, chopping out thistles. The opposite in the UK where pesticides and a strimmer would get this lot to the ground in a split second. All with the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau in the background. Gosh, it was a flipping good trip ! Loved every single second.

The photos don't do it justice. a million flowers !

Alpine meadows, simply stunning

This was a walk from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg. We had to take the goldola up from Wengen and then we walked along the Panorama View path towards Kleine Scheidegg. We had views of the north face of the Eiger the whole day, oh my goodness, it was one of life's fantastic days!  This was a hotel at the end of our walk that was only about 3 miles but took us hours and hours due to flowers and birds. The hotel was used in the Clint Eastwood film The Eiger Sanction.

The north face of the Eiger from the beginning of our walk.

These were the tables on the train on the way to Wengen from Zurich airport. You could start and plan your trips before you got there and it summed up the fantastic organisation that is Switzerland.
