Hotel Silberhorn, Wengen, Switzerland

A week in Switzerland was just what we needed and it was absolutely fantastic. We did panic about the heatwave that we left behind but knew our garden was left in safe hands with our Tom looking after it and a good neighbour also watering our many huge planters on our south facing front. I have many pics to show you, mainly mountains and flowers, but we will start with the hotel which was perfect (but not cheap!)

Our hotel,  The Silberhorn Hotel and Spa, which was directly opposite the small railway station. The town of Wengen is car free and the only way to get there is on the cog railway. There was a restaurant below it but we stuck with the half board dining, if you saw the prices then you would too ! There was a co-op next door where we stocked up on snacks. The cog railway went up to the base of the Eiger and down to Lauterbrunnen where we got connecting trains. The trains are so punctual, leaving not on the minute but the second. Staff are on the platforms at all times giving times, platforms and advice. A service that deserves a gold medal, absolutely spot on and puts our totally to shame. The trains were certainly not cheap but a half price rail card was part of the holiday package which helped.

Our room which was nice and clean and with a view to die for. I hadn't booked a balcony with a mountain view as they were so expensive so it was a very nice surprise to find that we had one. I can't begin to tell you how good it was to just sit and look at the view. Medicine for the soul !

The view from our balcony with the train station below and the Jungfrau in the distance.
 It was stunning !

Another balcony view. A red squirrel lived in the trees bit it only showed itself occasionally.

The town centre ! The tourist information centre was stacked with maps and info which we stocked up with. There was a little bakery next door that sold apple strudel to die for !

What a view !  The best we have ever had from any hotel round the world x
Golden Eagle drifted down the valley, lammergeier soured over the tops, many chamois fed constantly on the mountainsides. Black redstarts and serins everywhere. Wish we were still there !

We had many storms while we were there, usually around 3pm or one that lasted all night and frightened me to death with the cracking and banging ! But afterwards, the skies were spectacular.
