What a day, it is one that I will never forget. We took the cable car up from Wengen to Mannlichen and then took the path to Kleine Scheidegg. Quite a popular path among the tourists that had heads down and walked as quick as possible......just wonder why they bother. It took us absolutely hours, constantly stopping for flowers and just to take in the views which were the best ever! We looked at the north face of the Eiger all day but couldn't see any climbers on it. Just goes to show that a telescope was needed as we sat next to a mountain climber on the train the following day and he told us he had been up there, as far as the windows, but with binoculars we couldn't see any climbers.
The north face of the Eiger that was in view for the whole walk. We got closer and closer and it was fantastic !
The Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau on one of our alpine meadow walks
I have read many, many books on the Eiger so to see it in real life was a massive tick off my bucket list.
The windows, used in the construction of the Jungfrau railway which runs straight through the mountain and recently featured in the Joe Simpson documentary of the White Spider where all the climbers perished in 1938. The Jungfrau train passes through the mountain before arriving at the highest railway station in Europe. We didn't do this trip as the price was astronomical and was not included in our rail card. We could see the many tourists at the station.
The Jungfraujoch station, the highest in Europe at 3454m.
