Violet Helleborine, Lincs

A drive south for another new helleborine, Violet. In a small wood that was easy to find and with some spot on directions, we were soon looking at a clump of violet helleborines. We found a few other spikes, but they were tiny and parched.  Simon then found a single flower spike in the area, brilliant.

The only down side to the wood is that it was literally covered in dog poo. The paths and verges were disgusting. Never seen so much in a wood, there wasn't a patch of grass on the verges that didn't have poo on them. Vile. I have written to the Forestry Commission to voice my views.

We called at Langfield Lowfield on the way home. A brilliant reserve, love it. An apt sign and pity they weren't in place in the wood we visited earlier.
