Intaka Island, Cape Town

Blacksmiths Plover

Bees !

Eastern White Pelican

Cape Shoveler

They had built huge frameworks for the cormorants, gulls and terns to roost on with large containers sunk into the water underneath to collect the poo. Such a brilliant idea......why don't our wildlife trusts do this? Most don't even provide a single perch but I won't start on that one !

A tree full of doves

Levaillant's Cisticola

Red-eyed Dove

Rock Pigeon

Spoonbill

Spotted Thick Knees

Purple Swamphen

Water Thick Knees

Common Waxbill

Yellow-billed Ducks

A large area of waste land given to nature right in the midst of a massive new housing development in Cape Town. Some of the waterfront properties were palatial ! Lots of birds and plants and with a nominal entrance fee (about £1) it was an excellent couple of hours walking round the lake and sitting in the two bird hides.

Intaka Island reserve

Lots of framework for roosting birds

Angulate Tortoise
