Blue Pitta, Khao Yai, Thailand

We were at the Blue Pitta stakeout for first light, infact the sun hadn't even risen but we had a group of 14 birders on a Tropical Birding trip to beat here as this bird was renown for showing at first light and then disappearing for the day. We would have loved to be able to spend a further half hour here, just so we could see the bird in daylight but that wasn't to be as our guide had us lined up with a slot booked at each stakeout for the rest of the day, so cant really complain. It was only our second ever pitta and it was so beautiful. Might just have to venture into southern Thailand to see more!  We did hear Eared Pitta elsewhere on our trip, but it failed to show.  Plus, a tad more light would have made for better pics, these are quite heavily lightened, it was the best we could do in dusk conditions.

While we were sat behind the screen waiting for the pitta, a photographer from Taiwan strolled straight into the stakeout and put up his pop up hide straight infront of us all, the noise he made was off the scale. Our guide soon shifted and silenced him !  The photographers were everywhere and I will tell you all about them later.
