Hundreds and hundreds of bee orchid spikes now at Toft Newton Reservoir. We have never seen these here before in such great numbers as the previous management just constantly mowed the living crap out of it. Now with the Environment Agency taking it back into their management the mowing is not as strict. A stunning display yesterday and a couple of voicemail messages left to inform the reservoir manager followed up by an email showing location maps around the reservoir. They looked simply stunning...............glad we saw them in all their beauty as the mower went straight over the lot the following day. Reason.....the EA have to protect the structural integrity of the reservoir banks. As if 100 bee orchid spikes left for a couple of weeks would harm the site.......words fail and tears were not too far away.
