Florida snaps

Merritt Island NWR with the Kennedy Space Centre launch pad in the distance. Birding doesn't come much better than this. We came here twice during our week and now wished we had spent even more time here. American Avocet eluded us on both occasions though. The drives around the wetland were Black Point Wildlife Drive and Gator Creek Road. We had the best birds on Gator Creek.

Driving around Orlando and Kissimmee was an absolute nightmare to say the least. I can't drive left handed and have never driven an automatic before, so it was all left to Simon with me as co-pilot. I can't begin to tell you how lost we got !!

We went self catering so we thought we couldn't go wrong with eggs, beans and toast......... Just buying a loaf of bread that didn't contail 2lb of suger per slice was near impossible and then they took baked beans to a whole new level. With about 50 different tins of beans on the supermarket shelfs, we found just one tin that didnt have maple sysrup, bacon or other meat or 30% pork fat in it. Now we always thought that beans were a vegetable...........not in America they aren't !

Kaliga Park in St. Cloud. This was just fabulous with birds simply everywhere. Such a peaceful area that the locals kept spotless clean.

This is the price of petrol per GALLON. $3.97 which converts to £2.60. How ripped off are we getting here in the UK !

 Seaworld, Orlando

Our very own turf !! Turf is a much nicer word than sod.

Flamingos in Seaworld, they just looked so pretty.

SCORCHIO !!

Kaliga Park in St. Cloud. Afraid this was the only owl we saw on our trip as Burrowing Owl was an impossibility in our area.

Walmart, Orlando. These guns were on the shelves for all to buy. Could just imagine a shopping list:
Bread, milk, something for tea, pack-ups, shotgun.........oh and don't forget some bullets ! We saw many back street shops that sold 'Liquor and Guns' now those two don't really go together unless you are in America of course!
