Pied Flycatchers

A trip to Spurn to see the White Rumped Sandpiper made a nice change for a Sunday morning. It was on the new Kilnsea wetlands. The new car park and footpath round the wetlands is brilliant. Very impressed! The sandpiper was far too distant for any pics and also there was a curlew sandpiper. Went down to Canal Scrape where there was very little until a fall of pied flycatchers and a couple of redstarts. These pics of a couple of pied flys were taken from Cliff Farm.

Train Twitching

A Friday afternoon trip to Howsham to see 2 black redstarts got us in with a small 'train twitch'. This was a Class 60 091 working 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey Oil Refinery. One of only 15 left in the country so this is a mega rarity. The redstarts flew into some small trees as we got there, never to re-appear so we stayed with the train spotters to watch this. They did enjoy telling us all about it !

Better make the most of these, they will soon be flying south to sunnier places for the winter

Stilt Sandpiper, Northumberland

After having probably one of the worst mornings of my working career, I talked my hubby into booking the afternoon off and so we drove 200 miles north to catch up with this American beauty. Very distant and with the sun straight at us, photography was almost impossible. But it was still a feel good factor to add this to our UK list. We did see many of these in America where they were almost at your feet. A lovely bird in our favourite part of the country.

Goshawk and Honey Buzzard at Wykeham Forest

Not a lot to see in Lincs so decided to head to Wykeham Forest hoping for goshawk and honey buzzard. We were not disappointed! The honey is carrying lunch, but can't make out what it is.  These photographs were taken at Troutdale. A fabulous valley that always pleases!

Had a brillint raptor weekend. Not only did we see goshawk and honey buzzard but we can add hobby, buzzard, kestrel, sparrowhawk, marsh harrier and peregrine falcon to our weekend list. Not bad !

We are so lucky to have this site 10 minutes away from home. Tonight we had 2 pairs barn owls, 3 pairs willow tit, breeding pair turtle doves, marsh harrier, juvenile bullfinches plus a supporting cast. An excellent evening walk.
