Lesser Kestrels, Bulgaria

Each numbered hole has a nest box behind it that staff get ready each year for the birds, putting a few feathers and sawdust in so the birds instantly feel at home.

What a laugh we had here, ticking and photographing these two birds.......

they are quite still don't you think !!  We laughed until we had tears !

Now a  very successful breeding programme for the lesser kestrel. We were treated to a very interesting presentation by Green Balkans,  explaining their work in bringing the lesser kestrels back to Bulgaria. There were two buildings that contained numbered boxes and most were now occupied. We did laugh when we all ticked and photographed two plastic models perched near the buildings.....until we looked a little closer and realised. Hilarious !
