Purple Heron and Great White Egret
A long drive to Northumberland for this Purple Heron, a bird that Karen had on her 'wanted' list for this year. After 100 miles driving, Karen wished she hadn't bothered and waited for one to land in Lincs. It was definitely a spur of the moment decision to go and was certainly miles too far! Still it added another bird to Karen's UK list, bringing it to 338. Viewing was definitely not easy with the heron snuggled in the opposite reed bed and a 6 foot gap to view it from. This gap was full of 'Sunday people', not birders. With our scope being used by one and all, much to Karen's disgust ! And yet again Karen was referred to as a 'birders wife' and yet again men stood infront of her..........she was not impressed!
A Great White Egret was on the next pits, but this remained as distant as the heron! Still, a nice but very tiring day up north.
