Welbeck Raptor Viewpoint

A trip this afternoon to Welbeck, Notts. With the cloud clearing and the sun coming out, the raptors took to the sky. After an hours wait and several common buzzards, 3 honey buzzards soared into the air and performed well for a good 10 minutes. Next up was a female peregrine falcon closely followed by a very showey male GOSHAWK (found by Karen!). Pity we weren't in Lincolnshire! Met some nice people and had a good laugh. An excellent day !

Sandpipers

Had a very 'sandpiper' weekend with a Marsh and Wood Sandpiper at Blacktoft Sands, these Green and Common plus a Spotted Sandpiper at Rutland Water.
Really like the reflections of the green sand.

Marsh Sandpiper

This is the Marsh Sandpiper that was originally at Alkborough Flats. It has been at Blacktoft for nearly a week now. Views were still distant though.

Spotted Flycatcher

Great Crested Grebe

A visit to Messingham Nature Reserve to try and catch spotted flycatcher, which we did successfully. No sign of the otters but this Grebe with young swam quite close. Pity the mosquitoes took control and we beat a hasty retreat!

Marsh Sandpiper

Marsh Sandpiper at Alkborough Flats tonight, 11th July. The 4th record for Lincs, the last one being at Bardney in 1992. This is a first UK record for us. Photos taken at dusk with bird very distant! Bird found by Neil Drinkall. Apologies for the grainy pics but I had to put them on as it was such a big tick for us !

Corn Bunting

A fantastic day with corn bunting, little owl, peregrine, bearded tit, spotted flycatchers, 100's of warblers, a singing quail and a Grade I listed building!
