Horkstow Bridge

Horkstow Bridge - a suspension bridge that spans the New River Ancholme. Designed by Sir John Rennie in 1836 as part of the River Ancholme Drainage Scheme.  Built to cross the New River Ancholme to give access to the brick kilns that ran along the bank. It is one of the earliest surviving suspension bridges in the country and is now a Grade II* listed building. 

Bittern, Far Ings NNR, Barton upon Humber

Just got the lid off the flask and the biscuits opened and out walked a bittern.....and there it stood !  An excellent couple of hours.

An excellent day, lots of blue sky and no rain !! 

Felt good to get out and about after the week of non-stop rain and flooding. 

Whooper Swans

Our first day of the floods gave us 4 Whooper Swans......we are now nearly into a week of the rain and thinking of building an ark ....enough !!

Local flooding today

The River Eau running through Scotter. Usually resembles a stream.....today looks like the Trent ! All nearby houses now totally flooded but not a sandbag in sight ?  The floods drew quite a crowd, the police shut the roads and a rescue boat was launched to fetch all the people stranded.  We will never live near water !
