Yellow Wagtail

Probably one of the worst birding weekends in living history. With the sun shining and temperatures in the 70's and no wind, there was very little to see. Walked around Covenham Reservoir and beleive it or not, these yellow wagtails were the highlight (apart from the planes!). Simply dire.

Hobbys

So pleased to see our local pair of hobbys have successfully reared 2 chicks this year.  Never tire of watching these magical birds.

Arctic Warbler

Arctic Warbler at Flamborough Head, Yorks. A first for us two. What a little cracker of a bird! I can't begin to tell you how mobile it was ! Then headed sea watching, porpoise being the order of the day. Good company and laughs all round ! An excellent day.

Saturday 1st September

Not a bad day really. Started the day with this single wheatear while a hobby mobbed a skylark overhead. A marsh harrier flew quite close. It was trying it's chances with some newly released pheasants! As the sun came out, these butterflies gave us a good show and then we finished the day off with a very distant short eared owl.

Alkborough Flats

Just a few pics from this weeks trips to Alkborough. One visit was ruined by the local farmer rounding his sheep up, which involved an hours pipping of his horn and a dog barking. Hardly suprising there are very few birds.  Walked round the corner to find that he had his sheep penned up on the public footpath, totally blocking the way.  Haven't seen the spoonbills this week but plenty of egrets on there.

Lincs Coast

This is typical - a Bank Holiday weekend and no birds to see ! We tried many stops on the Lincs coast on Monday, with a noticable lack of birds. The highlight was a merlin at Seaview Farm. These few sanderling were dotted at the waters edge. The beach was certainly deserted - lovely! Infact there was just us two.......
