Bee Orchids

On one of the industrial estate grass verges in town, at least 100 spikes so far, most still to flower. Our local council cut these all down last year so this year we have emailed them to ask not to cut the grass, for at least a month. They are on most of the grass panels, quite a spectacle in an area of lorries and industrial units.

Nightjar !!

BOOM !!

We are so lucky where we live, just a couple of miles from home we see the nightjars every year, in many different spots. This is our nearest so a quick dash at dusk didn't disappoint. We knew our nightjars had returned as we had heard and also seen them last week. We heard churring straight away and pinpointed the area. A quick glance round through binoculars and bingo! one was sitting on the same perch we had seen it on in previous years. It was near dark so photography was a challenge. But what a sighting for a Saturday evening and with two woodcock constantly over and other nightjars churring and clapping nearby......a flipping good trip.......now home to dab our many mosquito bites !

Orchids in a beautiful meadow

A beautiful meadow, not too far from home, that is covered in Southern Marsh orchids and the occasional Common Spotted.
