Red Kite, Gainsborough

Driving through Gainsborough on the way to see the bee-eaters when Simon shouted "red kite" and there swooping onto Lea Road was this red kite. An emergency stop in traffic near the train station, so we could watch this kite. It flew inbetween the houses, over the road and round again for a while before it flew up over the houses towards the landfill site and lost to view. A good start to an excellent day !

Peregrine Falcons, Louth, Lincs

A Sunday afternoon trip to Louth to see the peregrines. Two chicks were out, one flying very confidently, the second one reluctant to leave this ledge. There was plenty of food stashed at the back of this ledge as it leaning over and feeding. Both chicks were rung. Fabulous birds on stunning architecture, a perfect Sunday afternoon out.

Bee-eaters, East Leake, Notts

What a cracking Monday, they don't get much better than this one that's for sure. Waited for these to come onto pager this morning and off we went. Just over an hour later we were there watching these beauties. They fed constantly all day, such a privilege to watch them hawking dragonflies, butterflies, and mayflies, feeding their partners. Often a juicy dragonfly led to mating, that happened many times during the day.  They were never still, calling, flying, feeding and mating, they were just fantastic to watch. Lets hope they stick around so we can go see them again. A good friendly crowd, easy to find site and a bridleway that's been recently cut, add 6 bee-eaters and a good day was had by all !

Red Arrows, Scarborough Armed Forces Day 2017

The Reds at Scarborough Armed Forces Day. We headed for Holbeck Car Park, and although that road was closed and parking was a nightmare, we did find a good spot with a vantage point to watch my all time favourites ! They always have the WOW factor, an excellent afternoon with blue sky and a 99 icecream !
