We were very lucky to find the pomarime skua tonight at Messingham sand quarry. A first record for the reserve and a very good inland find. It ate it's way through a black headed gulls nest (with the help of a persistant herring gull), had a good bath and a fly round. Then it set about a coots nest before selltling down for a rest. It had flown before 5am the following morning. The coots were back re-building and arranging their nest as if nothing had happened! Perhaps it was blown off course by today's gale force winds. A brilliant find!
