Great Grey Shrike, Alkborough Flats

Right place - right time for a change !
A very distant and extremely flighty great grey shrike that had a lady in a bright red fleece to avoid and then a helicopter flew over which terrified the shrike and it flew and flew over the River Trent. Despite a further hour searching, it failed to return.

Arctic Warbler, Kilnsea Churchyard

Waited until Monday to go to Spurn for the day, less people ! Started the day off with the Red-backed Shrike, then onto Kilnsea churchyard where the Arctic Warbler was showing and our views were simply stunning. It actually stopped flitting about and sat out for a good 10 seconds! Plenty of yellow-browed on the day list also.

Long-billed Dowitcher and a trio of Cattle Egrets, Saltfleet, Lincs

We had left this for quite a while before deciding to head to the Lincs coast. The bird was nowhere to be seen but we stood for an hour of so before a couple of mallard had a right scrap in the reed bed and out flew the dowitcher, landing in the drain behind. Fantastic views were had by all !

and not one, not two, but three Cattle Egrets in a nearby field

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby

What an absolutely fantastic day at RAF Coningsby on Friday. We had been planning to return before the end of this year's flying so when we saw that the Typhoon as well as  the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight were displaying, off we went. There was non-stop flying all day starting with the Typhoon followed by the Lancaster which flew in and out all day, changing crew each time, finishing with a display with the Spitfire. Add on constant Typhoons coming and going and a Tornado. It was a fabulous day, infact probably the best we have ever had at Coningsby.
