Today at Spurn

Out of the car for 2 mins and Simon found a great grey shrike

It was one of those 'goldcrest' days, they were absolutely everywhere !

Arctic Warbler, Donna Nook

A last minute decision in the afternoon to go to Donna Nook for the arctic warbler and we were certainly not disappointed. We were only there a few minutes when word went out that a raddes warbler was also showing down on the beach. So, Simon got a few shots of the arctic and off we headed. We were quickly loosing the light and the wind had got up but we stook it out with the ever increasing crowd and were lucky to get good (although brief) views of it. A yellow-browed warbler near the car park was a bonus. A cracking afternoon.

Avocets at Alkborough Flats

We often wonder why the birds are so skittish and unsettled at Alkborough!

Little gull

A day at Spurn with a couple of yellow-browed warblers, a barred warbler and stonechats, very little else about but a nice day all the same. Lunch in the Canal hide with a distant merlin.

Stonechat at Alkborough Flats

Well they got the forecast right today, for a change !  Heavy rain this morning so watched Monument Men, a cracker of a film. As soon as the rain stopped we were out, heading for an afternoon walk at Alkborough Flats.  This site never ceases to amaze, some brilliant birds to be seen and only us two there............
