Our garden this week

We have a couple of pairs of blackbirds that nest nearby, they are constantly in our garden for worms. Today they brought two chicks in for more worms. They have gone quite now so hope she is sitting again and these chicks have fledged.

Now, you will probably be thinking 'what the heck is this ?'. The bungalow at the corner of our street feeds foxes in their garden. We have only just found out about this and now lots of finds make sense. They feed them many things including eggs which they always take. We have found 4 eggs buried in our planters this year and next door has found many in her garden aswell. At first we couldn't believe we had found a raw egg buried, but it makes sense now. We have never seen these foxes and our garden at the back is quite enclosed but we see signs of something going under the fence which we thought was hedgehogs. Simon was re-planting a huge planter at the bottom of the garden and this ducks head was buried in it. No body, just the head. This must have been a meal stashed by a fox and forgotten about. Will have to put up a camera trap and see what visits !

A wood burning stove and a joiner son is a flipping good match !  Every Friday when he comes home the back of his van looks like this. Simon spends all day Saturday on the circular saw and it's all bagged up and put away ready for winter. We will certainly not be cold and it won't cost us a penny, perfect !

It's now new potato time and we love it. Homegrown spuds, harvested every couple of days. You cannot beat it, delicious. Cooked with mint from the garden and I have even splashed out on butter !

OMG just look at these, they taste fantastic. We dream of these in winter when we have to eat tasteless, mass produced rubbish from supermarkets.

Have eaten them every day for the last couple of weeks and have a good 20 buckets of them left still.

Mothers Day rose plants looking beautiful in the garden

Marsh Fritillaries and a Dingy Skipper, Chambers Farm Wood, Lincs

With the sun shining today we decided to head to Chambers Wood for the Marsh Fritillaries. We were certainly not disappointed, they were literally everywhere. A chap was doing a survey and he had counted around 500, one of the best days ever at Chambers. Believe me, it was fantastic and quite a spectacle.  Lots of pics for you to look at, hope you like them x

even I attracted one !

and a Dingy Skipper dropped in for a split second before it was on it's way again
