Serin at Flamborough
A new UK bird for Karen taking her list to 354. Onward and upward! This serin had shown like a 'lemon sherbet drop' in the morning (so a birder mate told us!). Lunch time was a whole new ball game............It was feeding on the ground near the top hedge so was not viewable, it would then fly into the side hedge at the top of the field, never giving a clear view. A pair of peregrines displaying overhead was an added bonus.
Saturday afternoon Red Kites
7 white 7 red
Called at our usual red kites this afternoon. They have the WOW factor and are always so good to watch, but afraid are always distant. There were a good 20 flying and 8 buzzards. Didn't stay until they all came into roost though as far too cold and we had a guided trip stood next to us...........will return and hope for no-one !

This weekend
Had a brilliant weekend with a great white egret on Saturday morning, then onto Blacktoft later to see the hen harrier come into roost (afraid no male, just a ringtail). Then Sunday morning we headed to Spurn. Simon found 2 snow buntings which were then flushed by an uncontrolled dog (of which there were many !). On the way home we did a detour to watch our red kites come into roost, a perfect end to a wonderful weekend.
The trees were full of fieldfares, just arriving.
Very difficult to count, but at least 30 red kites came into roost. Always a pleasure to watch, they certainly have the WOW factor!
