Our first Chiffchaff of the year

Our first of the year, a local sewage works chiffy.....and a water pipit that refused to be photographed!

Messingham Nature Reserve

Removing all the under story habitat from the woods

Parkland

This is our local nature reserve at Messingham. The paths are strimmed and strimmed every week by a massive group of volunteers. They are now in excess of 20 feet wide. The scarlet elf cups that grow along the path have been strimmed in their prime. The paths are now 'done' so they are moving into the woodlands, strimming down all the undergrowth. Habitat destruction at it's very worse on a nature reserve. It has been questioned and the reply was 'I have to find something for the volunteers to do'.  THIS IS A NATURE RESERVE.......STOP !!!!!!

Bearded Tits and a few other bits

A few from last week, our local Kingfishers and Little Egret

Lots of Whooper Swans around locally

Always good to see a Red Kite drift along

Plenty of Pink-footed Geese feeding in the fields

Kestrel

Our neighbors feeders were covered in Goldfinches

Kingfisher !
We often walk along a piece of water, just one street away from home. We see a couple of kingfishers along there, often just a flash of blue,  and couldn't believe our luck when this one flew and perched right infront of us, catching at least 3 fish. This is one of the filthiest stretches of water with hundreds of dog walkers constantly walking it. We don't need to pay in a bird hide with tanks of minnows, we have our own !
The locals have all been talking about this Egret, today was the first time we have seen it. So a good day all round !
