A fabulous day at Spurn

Pied Flycatchers arrived as we were there 

Black Redstarts 

Lesser Whitethroat 

Redstart 

Roe Deer 

Wheatears 

Whimbrels 

One of those magical days at Spurn, so glad we chose it for our Sunday birding trip.  We arrived just before lunch and straight away we had pied flycatcher in the hedge next to the car, then another, then another !  12 were reported for the day, brilliant. There were wheatears on every rock, infact the evening count said 70+, a few black redstarts and a redstart, whimbrel in their new field thanks to the YWT. An excellent day in good company and now with a Western Sahara trip to look forward to !

A walk in the North Yorkshire moors

A lovely day spent walking in the North Yorkshire Moors, the scenery was stunning but the birdlife was almost non-existent. A handful of red grouse and a smittering of meadow pipits was about it for the day. But a very enjoyable day x

Red-rumped Swallows and a distant Dotterel, Frampton Marsh

Not one, but TWO red-rumped swallows today at Frampton in freezing cold, torrential rain.  Both birds over the water behind the visitors centre. 

A very distant dotterel in the cow field with the golden plovers. A nightmare to find with the heavy rain, everything steaming up and me shivering !   Home for a very hot bath. 

Lots of ruff and distant curlew sandpipers. An excellent day with lots of birders to chat to and more importantly, some birds to look at for a change. 

Garganey, Blacktoft Sands

The garganey was fast asleep when we arrived in the hide, it slept for ages while we waited and waited....eventually stirring, had a quick preen and shake and off it went !
