Strandfontein Sewage Works, Cape Town

Another site that we visited twice and we are so glad we did. The book says you drive round settling pits so you image a sewage works like we have here in the UK. It should read settling lakes.....it goes as far as the eye can see, it's massive with pit after pit after pit. It was covered in birds, thousands and thousands of them. I imagine with a few days and a telescope you could get a right good tally.  Quite a few birders were driving round so the sewage works don't mind the access. A brilliant few hours.

All the wetlands had these frames for resting birds, such a good idea. This one was covered in cormorants and terns. On our second visit there had been a drop of black terns that were not there the first time.
