Tour of Britain - Stage 3, North Lincolnshire

The day dawned and rain could be heard....torrential ! The weather forecast was dire so we thought the worst for the day, but as the day wore on, the sun did eventually shine, we are not called Sunny Scunny for nothing! We had been looking forward to this day and Simon had our timings and view points planned like a military exercise, and it all worked out perfectly.

We decided to start the day at the Normanby / Flixborough turn, missing the start thinking the crowds would be huge, but getting a good spot on a corner (good idea!). We were the only ones there to start with, but the crowds soon built up, most of them on bikes, which gave the motorbike police a massive issue as they were determined to ride the route about 5 minutes before the riders. They were soon chased with sirens blazing much to our amusement !

and here they come !!

A packed peleton with no breakaway riders yet.

A quick dash home and a brisk walk down to Messingham Road to the crossroads with Manor Road, Bottesford. This was the first sprint. The crowds here were huge, and I mean HUGE !

Team Sky being led by Geraint Thomas

A brisk walk home from Bottesford and then onto the finish on the Kingsway. Wow, when did all this stuff arrive, the organisers must work night shifts to get this lot perfectly in place and set up ready. Very impressed with the big screens, we could see exactly where the riders were. The organisation for the whole day was simply outstanding, from the road cleaning, litter picking, grass cutting, signing, race day organisers, absolutely first class. One of the best days ever !

Geraint Thomas heading for the line

They have just done over 100 miles and they still ride like they are out for the Sunday papers !

Heads down for the line....

Couldn't believe our luck being able to walk around the team buses at the end of the race.
They were all soon on board and off

A fantastic day !
