Far Ings Smews

Was hoping for a bittern or two, but afraid no luck today. This red-head was on the Hotel Pit and the drake was on Ness Pit, Barton. The sun shone for a change and the snow had all melted but quite a strong wind as you can see with the waves.

Saturday's bits and bobs .......

After a very heavy snowfall on Friday night, we knew we could only stay local on Saturday. So, we set off to find the flock of 100 roving waxwings that Simon had seen earlier in the week. They were soon located just off Brigg Road on Dunlop Way, their usual location. The birds didn't hang around and were soon flying off in search of food. We also saw a huge influx of fieldfares, with 1000's coming over - a sure sign of bad weather in the north.

Please help save Worlaby Carrs

We would like to draw to your attention the fact that it is proposed to plough the rough set-aside land at Worlaby Carrs, North Lincolnshire, in the year ahead. As many will know over recent years this area has become a magnet for wintering short eared owls. Don't birds have enough problems during the winter months without losing valuable habitat? A petition has been started to try and save this land from destruction, the link is HERE, please sign it.

A snowy Messingham

Long Tailed Tit, Willow Tit and Goldcrest, Messingham Nature Reserve

Scaup at Messingham NR

A visit to Messingham Nature Reserve today in the snow.  Just one of the four scaup remain which was closer today due to the lake being frozen. Other birds of note were goldcrests and willow tits. These pics actually look monocrome, and yes it really was that grey ! Was pleased to get home and return to the fireside!
